It took me a moment to realize that this wasn't a photograph of some fancy model making. It made me pause for a moment and actually step back and consider everything that's going on here. I will attempt to convey my thoughts despite the fact that I have no 'academic' idea what I'm talking about. What first struck me about this piece was the fact that it captures a single moment in time and holds it there perfectly, in a halo of white light that simply and elegantly presents two otherwise mundane objects. Beyond it is nothing, only darkness. The scene dwells within it's own eternity. What makes it so compelling, indeed, perplexing is the absence of the gross body, that hand that would pour the wine and leaves only what is essential to this moment. The arrangement of these four particular objects (the table, the book, the wine, the glass) exist as they are, separate and apart from a reality that is, momentarily, alien to us. This piece is a strange and wonderful meditation on stillness and eternity.
