Stolen Artwork sold

Journal Entry: Mon Nov 19, 2007, 12:34 AM

At least that's what I believe "I bought a button with your Zuko-Fanart on it!!" is supposed to mean.

Let's be clear about this. I do NOT sell prints, buttons or anything else if it's a fanart. I do NOT sell prints anywhere else except for DeviantART or you'll have to buy those directly from ME. I had a long, long text prepared, but forgot my external harddrive at home, so I'll be brief:

I will no longer upload artwork without a watermark on it. It's not to prevent theft, I know that's absolutely impossible. What I want to achieve is making my work useless for people who take artwork without the consent of the original artist and make prints, buttons and whatever out of that. in order to sell those works!

If you buy from those SCAMMERS you will always be ripped off, not only the original artist! Again: I have NOT sold any buttons outside of germany! You can only get my prints through DeviantART or directly from me! Please don't buy stolen works!

That just really sucks. Shame you have to put watermarks on all your pieces from now on, but it's a price we all pay when we put our stuff up online. Those scammers should be found out and disowned.

People should be aware of that it's forbidden to make money out of fan art anyway.
So selling unofficial artwork, merchandising or whatever is more or less illegal. (Although some companies might be tolerant in some cases.) It really sucks to see the own fan art is used for this stuff. Have you found out who's selling this crap?

No, I have no clue. The deviant who told me about the theft hasn't been online since commenting my fanart. I do know that my work was sold at AWA and after googling, I found out that that's Anime Weekend Atlanta or something.

Ok, I see. It's probably one (or several) of those button-sellers you can find at every event. They sell these cheap buttons with every kind of artwork on it. Usually with band-logos and stupid statements. For an anime convention they may chose some more related artworks. The quality is so low that I doubt this is licensed. Perhaps some cheap ware produced somewhere in China.

In this case I'm afraid that you won't be able to do anything about that. It's almost impossible to get the merchant's name or find out which company produces this crap.
