This is something I have had in mind for awhile. I get so many requests for free art, it's kinda *censored* . Or people ask me about commissioning me and all they want is fanart - which I don't sell, period! Unless the original creator is ok with that, but let's face it, Disney isn't going to allow that ;) . However, I realise that people think different and that's ok. And now enough with my yapping!

Free Friday - Free Art

You can post in this here journal your "request". It can be fanart, it can be almost anything. Rules:

1. You must comment my journal-entry
2. Keep your description short! "I'd like a drawing of my OC/Sherlock Homes/my dog eating his favorite snack" is fine, don't make me go through your fan fics for that particular scene ;_;
3. This is for private clients ONLY.  No commercial use what-so-ever!
4. You won't get a high-res, fullsize file, but you will get your name under my uploaded file.
5. One winner is chosen randomly on friday
6. I'll start working on your request on friday when I get home and work on it for as long as like or until I drop onto my bed. Whichever comes first.

:iconkc-mishi: is offering Free Friday as well. Check it out!

This does not mean that the lucky winner will get a full color sparkling refined illustration. It can be only a scribble. Whatever I can do with the couple of hours on friday and that's it :)

If that's not to your fancy then you can always commission me:

If you'd like to commission me, just contact me. I accept bank transfer (if you're living in germany/europe) and paypal. I recieved my splint and it really helps. My wrist feels wonky still, but I can paint. Digital at least! Traditional art is difficult atm since I can't rest my hand on a plane surface because of the splint :( . Thank you very much for your concern *hugs all*.

My wrist hurts, but I thought I had just worked too much. Now it seems my wrist is broken ._. Just when I thought about opening commissions again. Have to wait for the final diagnosis and that... sucks.

Thank you so much for recommending Canon. My scan went from literally "I don't want to scan that crap" to "ohmygosh did I draw that??". The Canon LIDE 210 really is that good! Can't wait to work with it, you know - scanning has been my personal nightmare and I thought it was either that was using the wrong paper or that the pencils I used to work with were crap and it's the main reason why I went digital. Now I can simply draw without having to worry about the quality of the files I work with, that's a relief.

I get to draw with pencils again, lalala :D
Well, nothing I do seems to help. My scanner continues to cut up my scans in half and I have to paste the pieces back together again in Photoshop. The trouble started when I updated my drivers for Win 7 and not even re-installing helped. It's the second hardware items which refuses to work with Win 7 right after my Roccat Headset.

I'm not in immediate need for a scanner, so I can take it slow and inform myself about the different models.

Can anyone recommend a good new scanner? Epson was my choice for the past years. Is a dedicated scanner better than a printer/scanner-combo? What about A3 scanner, any affordable models avaiblabe for homeuser?

************

I have 2 slots for commissions open right now.  Note me if you're interested in a full color CG of one character - starting at 75 Euro for a detailed and high-res portrait with some background elements (Texture, basic background).

I'll send you a flattened version to print after you've paid in full.

Payable via Paypal or bank transfer if you're living in germany.

Please take your time to read my last journal, too! December 1st - upload your work and spam the DA-Severs with art!
Edit, for the sake of peace and clarity. I still stand by the original version, but when I gave it some more thought I realised that there is absolutely no reason necessary other than the wish to draw art. What makes this idea different is the date: December 1. Get together, draw/create the best you can and submit it on that day. Comment on each others work, see what people have achieved in those two months and then think about it.

I'll update the journal with links to those that have already signed.

I propose this:

Create art and submit it to DA! Bust your asses on the next masterpiece and submit it on 1. December 2011. You have more than ample time to draw, paint and upload it on that day. That's not all! On that day, IGNORE all the stuff you do not want to see on the frontpage anymore. Instead comment on all the art people have put their heart and soul into.

- No given theme!
Have a project you've been working on and you want to see it in the spotlight? Now's the time!

- Not limited to drawings!
Literature, fanart, photography - whatever you're into, get creative and upload it on Dec. 1. 2011.

- Give it your best!
Learn something new, work longer on that piece than you normale would. Tell us what makes this drawing the very best you created so far.

- Absolutely NO bashing on fetish art or other artist!
This is about YOU. Your ART. Not how much you probably hate what's being posted on the frontpage.

- Comment and fave!
Make the art be seen. Get together and write comments, discover new talent, new favs. It's about a community!

Sign the journal if you're with me and link back/repost! Tell everyone about this and mark the date in your calendar. Let's do something other than complain!
Broke my glasses when I woke up today. Lot's of money down the drain as I need a new pair of glasses to replace the broken ones. Baaaaaaaaaaaaah!

I'm now sitting in the office wearing stylin' sunglasses. Sunglasses at night! and day. Will be a week until I can see normal again.
Want to know, what I find amusing? The frontpage. Or more precisly some of the uploads which make it to the frontpage. A popular artist copying another popular artist's motives and characters? Oh yes. Photos titled "Oops, I did it again - forgot my panties!" - and no, I did not make that one up. Shots of woman parts (wide-spread legs) uploaded to the nude-art category. Mostly with inapropiate titles, too - like: open me wide. Excuse me? Did your favorite Porn-photo-forum suddenly shut down? Do I even need to explain why that's simply NOT ART? Yeah, I hear you - anyone can make art, anyone can have luck and take a pretty picture and you are arrogant for telling anyone what others should consider art. Please step of your high and mighty horse, will you? No-one will argue that taking photos takes some sort of creativity, but creativity alone does not make an artist! There is a very fine line between creating art and just creating for creativity's sake. Stealing fellow artist's motives and spreading your legs just because you can do that and someone has a camera reday is just not IT.

- Pasting your gum on a wall is not art. Taking a picture of a wall full of gum is art - if it's done well.

- Using the right model, lightning and effort turns a nude picture into art!

- Pouring your soul into a drawing is art!

Please look me in the eye and tell me you do make a difference between your mom's holiday snapshots and a real photographer's efforts. If you do not, if you truly believe even your dog's crap is art.. then treat it like that and never ever tell anyone what they do is not art. I'm sure you'll come to the conclusion that it is just not possible because you'd come to the point when you're thinking: this is so bad, I'd have to lie to the creator that his crap is good/art. Go on. Try it.

By the way, this is not an excuse to bash people who take their first steps in the making of art. This is just about all those people who treat DeviantART as their very own photobucket and who try to defend their shit by saying everything is art. It's so not! Do you honestly want to find your MOM spreading her legs and showing her goods on the same page you post your pokemon fanart? Thought so.

Pardon the rude language, but... I get that way when something ticks me off.
... I feel for everyone who has to cope with the consequences of natural disasters - my family lived in a flood-area for years, so I have some measure of understanding what nature can cause. But seriously, it is still quite funny having to read about a hurricane who bears my name. Irene on rampage! :D

But do you have to say no?

Sorry, but I just had to laugh.

Take care should you live in the affected states!
Yeah, I've beaten the artblock! And I have time to draw for myself this week, at least I think, I do, haha. in other words, have a splendid week you all!
Stuck in an artblock - hope this will pass soon. Kind of ironic, isn't it: finally I have a super Workstation, but I can't paint! Ha! Monster is great, nonetheless. Works like a charm, starts up fast, no fuss whatsoever. Maybe I should just do somethign else, like updating/reworking my homepage. Good god, it's been YEARS. I'm completely out of practice when it comes to CSS and HTML.
After much fussing and cursing ... I've managed to make the monster behave. Thank you so much for trying to help, you can't imagine how I've felt for the past hours. I'm typing this on my new monster ( I believe, the PC earned it's nickname ) and I'm currently installing my software, moving data and what not. Mostly I'm just really glad it worked out and I'm dead-tired. But glad! *hugs all*
In about two weeks I should have my new system up and running, but I'm not sure if I can get the internet to work. When I moved to Berlin getting internet was a bit of a fight - in the end I got my internet, but no password or other data. I sure hope I can resolve this problem soon-ish. The new PC should be enough to properly work with what Software I have for some time to come and I really hope the new PC last just as long - if not longer than the old one.
God gave me a sieve instead of a brain, i swear. I meant to update my blog more often, but never got around to do it. Seems my brain is only good for memorizing stupid stuff, recipes and WoW-Stats. Sooner or later I do get the things done I want to do, but it just takes an awful time. Just like the A Song of Fire and Ice fanarts i wanted to draw ever since I read the books for the first time. I really want to draw the Imp, the Others, Brienne, Jaimie and more! The first fanart is of Sandor Clegane, though. Love that character. None of those scribbles are worth posting here, though, more the reason to update the blog more often and keep the gallery here a bit cleaner.

Blog is here: Engelszorn.blogspot.com

I'd love to draw more often, but I'm having serious computer problems  - which will soon be history. Can't wait for that either!
Well, I've had some rough days lately and I feel drained, emotionally, that is. Hopefully nothing that I can't take care of myself, but I'm really beginning to be fed up with sleeping most of the time when I really would like to do something other than that. I do have some drawings that I'm working on, but a friend is visiting later this week so I won't be able to paint much anyway.

Actually I was ready to go to sleep and then I read a journal by algenplfeger which really got me into headshaking. Seems a rather well-known (and successful) painter stole part of his work. Not only that, but the artist in question seems to be quite fond of overpainting and photo/art manipulating., but never fails to comment that it's all "handdrawn and her own copyright". Sigh, what's going on in these peoples mind... I don't know. On a certain level I can udnerstand - no, no, let me rephrase that, It's not that understand what's making them feel ok with that kind of - uh - "style", painting-method, but rather I KNOW what can lead to this kind of behavior. It safes time and trouble, that's it. Part of the art-industry is based upon that, but should personal art be subjective to the rules of "the arti-industry"? I mean, if I wanted to create a manipulation to create a personal art-oiece, I'd admit it and would calim it to be "completely hand-drawn", because that's not what I intended to do. And there would be zero shame in creating something like that - it wouldn't give serious photomanipulist a bad name and all would be happy.

Just my two coppers on the matter. Perhaps one day artists will gladly accept their own limitation, learn to surpass them or simply be happy with what they achieve with their own skills - wether handpainting or manipulating. Personally I have come to the conclusion that it's better to not be a permanent resident on the frontpage, if I'd have to lie to myself.

If this journal contains even more misspellings than usual, then it's due to my head nearly crashing on the keyboard, I need to sleep a bit more *waves and Good Night.
This anatomy course is really helping me to improve my paintings.. and mostly sketching, which is important. I always, always spend to much time on scribbling, loosing my focus while trying to fix errors - until I simply dump everything in the next trash bin. It's frustrating and doesn't help me improve because there is no improvement. Just 3 days have helped me to improve, I'm better with proportions and posing characters. This does not mean that I'm now 100% perfect, very far from it, but putting down the pencil on paper is no longer a nerve-crushing experience.

If you get a chance to partake in such a course, then by all means go for it! I always knew it would help me learn more about anatomy and lighting, but I didn't think it would be such a great help to have a live model to draw from.

I'm leaving for the next course in an hour and hopefully we will have another nice model to work with.

Of course you do not need to pay for such courses. Ask a friend to help you out! They don't even have to strip, you know :P they just need to be prepared for sore muscles from posing for hours, hrhr.
Hmm.. the one with roasted nuts... mmmhhh. Why? Well, not only it's a nice sunny day in Berlin, I also found the perfect apartment for rent. The one problem: It's a bit too pricey for me atm. Not by much, but with moving, buying a new PC I just won't make it. Boooo.. it had such a nice kitchen, balcony, two rooms, loooots of space and it also was in a nice part of the city. Damn. Here is to hoping I'll be lucky enough to find another apartment such as this one later.

I so need icecream right nooooow.
Sorry my english speaking friends, this is german only for now :/

Back from the course. What can I say? It was very nice and relaxing and a nice change from the usual "I need a pink cute unicorn" routine at the office. Amazingly friendly people, I got to meet :iconjanaschi: and people from the studio. If I could, I'd attend the next course in an instant, but I heard all places are already booked, which is kind of a bummer. The model was a petite young student, normal figure, we had good lights and music. And free beer, which I spilled. Thank god for concrete floors. I won't post those sketches in my gallery, but I'll scan some and post them on blogspot.

I'm tired, daaamn. Coffee. now.
